A Word of Welcome from
Adjutant Bill Hinson

Hello my Southern friends,

I would like to welcome you all to the sunny south and the
Lowry Rifles Camp #1740 website. We are so blessed to have
such a site. I hope you will take the time to read the many
articles of interest on our site. If you have a minute please
read the rest of my letter. I want to tell you just a little
about how and when the Lowry Rifles Camp was formed.

We formed our camp during the month of April 1996. Seven
Compatriots from Rankin County came together at Southern Steak
House in Pearl during the month of Mach 1996. We met and spoke
about how we needed a SCV camp in Rankin County. All of the
Compatriots that met that March came from other close camps.
Some came from the Mississippi College Rifles Camp of Clinton
and others came from the Jeff Davis Camp of Jackson.
The first year was rough on the members. We went through hard
times, but never stopped fighting to build this camp. In 1998
we started to pick up and since then we are booming!!!

As I stated at the beginning of this letter we started this camp
with seven Compatriots and now we are closing in on 90 members.
We are very fortunate to be blessed with lots of re-enactors.
We have re-enactors in our camp that represent the 1st Ms. Partisan
Rangers, 6th Ms, 10th Ms, 40th Ms, 46th Ms Infantry and 3rd Co.
Washington Artillery. We are a very active camp that stays very
busy fighting for our heritage. We attend many events such as Pearl
Day, Florence Day and we even march in parades in our county. We
even set up living history programs at schools and at libraries.
That is not all we do. We are very active in civic duties too.
We always try to help others when they are in need. We have an Adopt
A Highway program on Airport Road in Pearl. We are always ready to
lend a hand. We are famous for being the most active bunch in the
Mississippi Division. I sure hope you will tour our site and come
visit us at one of our meetings in the future. I really do not have
enough space on this page to tell you what all our camp does (ha, ha).
You will have to just come see us and find out! We are out on the front
lines defending your Confederate ancestors name everyday. Won't you come
join us in our efforts? We hope you will.

Oh yea!! Before I forget, we are also known as a very family oriented camp,
so come see what the Lowry Rifles Camp is all about and bring the family.
Thanks for reading my letter. Again please tour our site and come visit
our camp at our next meeting.
God bless you and yours,
Adjutant Bill Hinson
